Bluelake Acrobat to Laserfiche Connector

Bluelake Acrobat to Laserfiche Connector

The Acrobat to Laserfiche Connector adds a toolbar to Adobe Acrobat for sending PDFs from Adobe Acrobat to Laserfiche. Destination folder and templates are selectable with support for multi-instance fields.

With "New Acrobat" mode disabled:

You can request a free trial download here: Adobe to Laserfiche Connector - Bluelake Software

The trial download is good for 14 days and 100 documents. For purchased versions with multiple desktops we can also provide a customer-specific download that centralizes the Laserfiche configuration, so that it is configured automatically upon each install.

Overview of the Setup process:
  1. Configure Laserfiche for the integration.
  2. Configure Adobe Acrobat.
    - Turn off the "use only Certified plug-ins" option.
    - Disable Acrobat protected mode.
  3. Perform the workstation install(s).
Please see below for details on each step.
Laserfiche Setup - Laserfiche Cloud

Step 1.

Your Laserfiche administrator needs to register a new application in the Laserfiche Developer Console (https://app.laserfiche.com/devconsole, or your region's equivalent — see below) and save the resulting values for use locally in the demo version, or with purchase these values can be stored and managed by Bluelake, making deployments to multiple machines more seamless.

A. From Laserfiche Developer Console, Under Applications, select New

B. – Select Create a New app

C. Select Single Page App and provide a name – i.e. Adobe Capture Integration

D. Copy the Client ID from the Client ID area and save it.

E. Click on the Authentication tab and type in the redirect URL as http://localhost:47862/callback - the top of this page is shown below:

F.  Scroll to the bottom of the Authentication tab and select repository:Read and Repository: write.

If configuration is centrally managed, please send the following values to Bluelake, otherwise save them for the Adobe Configuration step.

-          Client ID (from the app registration)

-          Account ID (sometimes called Customer ID — your Laserfiche Cloud account identifier)

-          Repository ID (which repository within your account this integration should use - in the format r-)

-          Data center / region, if your organization is not on the standard US Laserfiche Cloud
instance (the sign-in and API addresses differ for Canadian and European data
centers, e.g. `signin.laserfiche.ca` vs. `signin.laserfiche.com`)

Laserfiche Setup - On premise

Confirm each workstation that will use this integration has network access to your Laserfiche server (the same connectivity your existing Laserfiche desktop client already requires — no additional ports beyond what the Laserfiche desktop client normally uses).

2. Decide on an authentication approach:

  1. Windows Integrated Authentication (recommended) — the signed-in Windows user's own credentials are used, the same way your existing Laserfiche client authenticates   today. No credentials are stored anywhere by this integration and no additional configuration is required.

  2. Dedicated service account — if integrated auth isn't viable in your environment, a shared Laserfiche account can be used instead; discuss credential handling with Bluelake, as  this is not the default/preferred path.

3. If your configuration will be centrally managed, send Bluelake your Laserfiche server name and Repository (database) name, otherwise save them for the Adobe Configuration step.

Adobe Acrobat Configuration

Repeat these steps on each desktop. Adobe Acrobat Pro must already be installed.

Step 1: Confirm Acrobat's plug-in security setting

The integration adds a native plug-in to Acrobat Pro. Confirm Acrobat is NOT configured to

"Use only Certified plug-ins" (this setting, if enabled, would block any non-Adobe-certified

plug-in, including this one):

- In Acrobat: Edit → Preferences → Security (Enhanced) (exact location varies slightly by

  Acrobat version).

Step 2: Disable Acrobat Protected Mode

This integration's plug-in needs to launch a companion application when "Send to Laserfiche" is clicked. Acrobat's Protected Mode — a sandboxing security feature, on by default — blocks this. Protected Mode must be turned off on any workstation using this integration.

**This is a genuine security posture change and should be reviewed with your security team before deployment. Turning off Protected Mode reduces Acrobat's sandboxing of PDF content in general, not just for this integration.

In Acrobat: Edit → Preferences → Security (Enhanced) → uncheck “Enable Protected Mode at   startup”. Acrobat must be restarted for the change to take effect.

For a managed fleet, this can also be set centrally via Group Policy / the Adobe Customization Wizard rather than by hand on each machine — ask Bluelake if you'd like the exact registry key for your deployment tooling.

Step 3: Close Acrobat and run the Acrobat to Laserfiche Export Application Installer.

Product Installation Instructions
After download, double-click on the AdobeToLaserficheInstall.exe file to invoke the installer.

Installer Steps - Prerequisite: Windows user has local admin priviledges.

At the initial installation window click install:

Click Yes at the elevation prompt:

Let the installer run to the end...

Click Close to close the installer.
Running the application

Placement of the Laserfiche -> Send to Laserfiche toolbar
Open Adobe Acrobat and open a PDF document. The first time it runs, look for the Laserfiche tool in the list of toolbars (you might have to click More..." to see it). Slide the Laserfiche tool up to a more convenient placing in the toolbar. Depending on settings and versions of Adobe Acrobat the tool can appear as the first Tool in the list, or it can be pinned to a Quick Access toolbar at the top.

Or with "New Acrobat" disabled, the Send to Laserfiche option can appear at the top of the PDF window.

Sending Documents to Laserfiche

When running under the demo license, the first time you click Send to Laserfiche, a demo license will be created. Customized installations will automatically draw an available license from the license pool and skip this dialog.

Next, you will be prompted for the Laserfiche connection type (OAuth or On-Premise option). For Laserfiche Cloud OAuth, provide the Client ID, Customer ID and Repository ID from the Laserfiche configuration step.

After filling in the values click OK

The Laserfiche login window will be displayed. This will establish a login session that will last roughly 8 hours.

The Send to Laserfiche window will display with the list of Laserfiche folders and the list of templates to select from. If a default Template was configured that will be pre-selected. Multi-instance fields can be populated by separating the values, one per line as shown below. Click Send to send the document to Laserfiche.

A confirmation dialog will be displayed with the resulting Laserfiche document ID.
